After 16 years of Orbán's illiberal rule - Interview with Andrea Petö and Borbála Juhász

From 2010 to April 2026, Orbán’s illiberal regime pursued an anti-feminist agenda, rewriting laws and curtailing women’s rights. How deeply has this conservative ideology permeated Hungarian society? What is the situation for women after 16 years of regression? And what remains of gender studies?

What prospects are opening up for women’s rights and the advancement of women following Orbán’s defeat in the parliamentary elections in April 2026?

Women on Air interviewed Andrea Pető from the Institute for Gender Studies at Central European University, and Borbála Juhász, an activist and former chair of the Hungarian Women’s Lobby.
