As an organization focused on diversity of opinion and freedom of expression, our thoughts are especially with all those working in Ukraine to provide independent information. We strongly call for compliance with the obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2222 (2015) on the protection of journalists, media workers, and related personnel in armed conflict. Free, independent, and impartial media must be promoted as one of the essential foundations of a democratic society, as they can also contribute to the protection of civilians. We also demand that attacks on amateur radio operators, non-commercial broadcasters, and press spokespeople cease, and that freedom of expression and information be respected.

Human rights violations and attacks against civilians, including journalists, media workers, and related personnel, are to be condemned and must end immediately. We express our solidarity with all peace activists in Russia and all non-violent initiatives working for a diplomatic solution to the conflict who are now caught between the fronts.

We demand a swift return to peace. In the words of Austrian Nobel Peace Prize winner Bertha von Suttner, we demand: "Lay down your arms!"
