Women Starting Over in Vienna

Aspects of Refugee Women's Integration and Empowerment

The project "Women Starting Over in Vienna: refugee women talk about their job search on the radio" addresses issues of refugee women’s integration and empowerment. Audio and multimedia portraits show working women who have fled to Austria in their everyday lives. As part of the project, refugee women are trained as radio journalists and take part in practical workshops on topics such as content creation, audio recording, and editing.

After completing the training, they work in small editorial teams to produce a series of reports on refugee women and their job situation in Austria. These reports feature portraits of refugee women who are working in their dream jobs as well as those who are still searching for work. The portraits focus on the women's personal stories and ask questions about professional fulfilment.

What are your expectations when looking for a job? Which organisations have you worked for? Which qualifications or skills contributed to your employment?

The aim of the interviews is for the women interviewed to serve as role models. In addition to the portraits, the reports will also include interviews with experts, practical information about the Austrian labour market, and further education opportunities for refugees, offering listeners guidance and support.
